Mayor Walker E. Reid III is a Gastonia native, who loves this city. He graduated from Hunter Huss High School and is a retired Mecklenburg County Assistant Fire Marshal. He has been happily married to Doris Hill Reid (March 5th, 1978) and has 3 adult children. He was the first African American Mayor elected to a first term on November 7th, 2017 and was re-elected to his second term as Mayor on November 5th, 2019. He previously served this city as a City Council Member of Gastonia for 16 consecutive years.
